Family Treasures

Own an Original Art Work by Marc Eliuk

Personally, I feel that it is an honor to create family treasures and for my original artwork to hang in people's homes; knowing, that the work is created for them and only them, to be passed down the generations increasing in both sentimental and economic value.

Currently I am limiting my portrait work. However, I will be remain available to repeat customers as some are endeavoring to obtain one of my works per year as a collection, and I will honor this with giving them my old prices.

Appraisal

"Unlike much of the 'surface' art being peddled today, Marc Eliuk's photorealistic portraits and surrealistic paintings reach to the depths of the human spirit, which has usually been true of 'great artists' historically.

It is rare in this age of ubiquitous trivia to find such an innate talent for courageously portraying, on canvas, existential aspects of the human condition that parallel those explored by classic literary figures like Dostoevsky, Kafka, Camus, Brecht, Sartre, Beckett."

--Lawrence Alfred Powell, editor-in-chief, Le Nouveau Monde Vert magazine

Workmanship and Guarantees:

All work is hand painted, original artwork with oil paint, using only a simple paintbrush. I stand by the quality of my work and guarantee it against cracking for one year (the maximum curing time). If it cracks, I will repair it for free; if it re-cracks, I will repaint the work. Additionally, when the work has just been completed, if you decide you want subtle changes, I will promptly change it, but only once, as too many layers of paint can lead to future cracking.

Check the Progress:

You can check daily the progress of your painting on the Workshop page of this site. I do my best to post the latest progress of your painting daily. Here's an example of what the postings typically appear as:

Your Photo:

Although I like sittings- they just take way too long for the degree of accuracy I employ. Therefore, all I need is a good photo, digital is preferred. In some cases, two or three images are helpful, if changes are requested in lighting, or the image is small. A 5x7 portrait is ideal for me to base a painting on, digital is even better as the details are usually so crisp, that I have minimal guesswork and can really excel.

Using different Photos

If you wish to have people from different photos on the same canvas, please ensure that the lighting in the photos be similar, as I paint what I see. Just a point of obvious clarity, if using separate photos, please use the same/similar facial angles (for instance all subjects being front profile). For the sake of providing high quality work, I will not even attempt to guess at the fine details of a person, at new angles, when I've only seen them in the photo(s) supplied. The more I guess or have to interpret, rather than painting what I see, the less the likeness to the real person in the painting. Forgive me for being conscientious, but I will turn down an offer if it won't look good on canvas, my reputation and your hard earned money are both at stake.

Background preferences and logos:

I tend to avoid too much detail in the background and avoid painting labels as it takes away from the people as the subject. Simply a rich, dark background or a wash/fade from light to dark or dark to light, keeps the people as the main focus and suits the style quite well. (Search through the galleries on this website, if there is a certain wash/shade in the background or tone of sepia that you want for the painting, just mention the name of the work).

Time Commitment:

Once dried, most works require a minimum of to two weeks for the paint to dry enough for shipping (Minimum time is approximately three weeks for painting and drying). For shipping works, add mailing or courier times.

Down Payment:

Due to the vast time commitment and the personalized nature of the work, I do ask for a 50% nonrefundable down payment.

Postage:

All shipping must be paid COD (please contact me regarding how you want it sent).

Additional services:

If you have a special request, please contact me, it doesn't hurt to ask. I will mention that I exclusively paint people and (I'm sorry) not favorite pets or wildlife.
