The Toxic Venus
The Toxic Venus

Has everything, in some way or form, become poisoned? Whether it be environmentally polluted, genetically perverted, or even philosophically distorting to our natural inclinations: humanity has served to corrupt it all. Is there anything pure and unmarred anymore?

Have love and beauty themselves become corrupted? This work was painted as a contrast to Botticelli's "Birth of Venus," to imply the corruption, even degradation, of all things in modern times; perhaps, even to the eventual death of Venus as the God of love, beauty, and fertility, as she has become toxic as all things in our era.

Nevertheless, there are many layers of interpretation to this painting, my poems are simply a glimpse.

Words are water
Ever deep,
Touched by tears.
(Marc Eliuk, March 2011)

Violated vexed vitiation,
Captivated, corrupted by corrosion
Subdued in societal subtleties,
Poisoned past purification.

(Marc Eliuk, April 2011)
